Please VOTE on January 2009 Photo of
the Month |

|
I'm looking for support from
those who visit my web site. I need your choice on what photo should be the
photo of the Month.
There is no
voting on December photos, but they will be added to the January
selection. I will always pick one photo from past years of the
Santa Run held by HVFD.
I want to thank
everyone who help in the selection of this year monthly photos.
The photos with the most votes have been place in the 2009 HVFD 2nd
Edition Calendar.
This calendar is now available for ordering
by going to the "For Sale Items" link to your left.

SPECIAL NOTICE:
Starting immediately December 18, 2008 the PHOTOSHOW program that
has been used by Calvert County Fire Departments ONLY for downloading photos
will no longer be available on website.
What will happen now is that one individual from each company will
be added to an email account to be sent photos. To make sure I have
the correct individual for each station who needs to receive the new
email information, please make sure you email me with the Station's
Name, the individual's name and the email address.
I have HVFD, Company 6 with Chief Riffe who handles the HVFD
website. If the event (fire/rescue/ or others) was only for HVFD,
then only Chief 6 will receive this email. If the event involved
multi fire stations, I will send to those individuals at each
station I have a listing for.
There are a few reasons behind this change. I hope this will work
smoothly and look forward to any feedback you might have.
It might be easier if you view the Adobe slide show that will still
be posted on the website and as you view the slide show, you will
see the photo id number on each photo. This will make it easier for
you to just select the photos you need for downloading for your
website, as the attachment will match the photo number.
Thanks for your cooperation in this matter. |
|
JPEG PHOTO FILE ------ Some
people just would like to have the photo to post to their website or
for other reasons and only need the photo file. Copying the
file without permission is illegal and charges and fines can be
applied. I have set up a cost for individuals to purchase
selected photo files. Please go to the "For Sale Items". |

established the Landing Zone for Trooper 2 & Trooper 7, but was

Ponds Wood Road - Auto
Accident
- Huntingtown VFD |
|
CALVERT COUNTY, MD - Sunday, December 21,
2008, the Huntingtown VFD was
alerted to
an auto accident on Ponds Wood Road. The report came out as
serious. Both Huntingtown and North Beach VFDs responded to
call. Once on the scene found a vehicle that had been cut
in-half by the impact of hitting the tree. The driver was
thrown from the vehicle and the passenger was still seriously
trapped in vehicle. The driver was taken to CMH for treatment.
Once the passenger was extricated from the vehicle, he was taken by
ambulance to PG Trauma. The helicopters were not flying
because of weather conditions. There was a light rain in our area
and you will see some of the water spots on the photos because of
this being on my lens.
There is a warning on
the second slide to give you the option to stop the slide show.
I believe you have seen worse on TV, but wanted you to have the
option to stop at that point.

In the early morning hours of Sunday December 21, 2008, rain was
falling across the region and freezing on contact with the roadways.
Shortly after 0200 hours, Chief 6 (Riffe), Captain 6 (Mckenny),
Lieutenant 6 (Thrasher), Squad 6 (Cox, C), Engine 62 (Buckler), and
Ambulance 69 (Morgan) were alerted for the serious auto accident,
vehicle split in half, in the 3500 block of Ponds Wood Road. In
addition, North Beach VFD Rescue 1, Ambulance 18, and Medic 105 were
brought to the call. Units from the Huntingtown VFD arrived to find
a single vehicle wrapped around a tree with the back half of the
vehicle completely ripped off and approximately 50' feet away.
Bystanders advised that the driver and back seat passenger were
unaccounted for. The front seat passenger however, was trapped, with
multiple injuries. Squad 6 and Engine 62 arrived and began the
tedious operation of beginning to remove the wreckage from the
patient. Both sets of "O" cutters, the 32" Jaws, and Maverick Combi-tool
were utilized. Rescue 1 hooked up their front winch to pull the
vehicle from the tree to gain access to the passenger compartment.
One firefighter from Engine 62 stood-by with a charged handline. In
30 minutes, the patient was extricated and ground-transported to PG
Shock Trauma via Ambulance 69 & Medic 105. The driver was found
shortly into the incident, walking around, and transported to
Calvert Memorial Hospital by Ambulance 18. The rumor of the 3rd

As Ambulance 69 was returning from PG Shock Trauma shortly after
0500 hours, a man jumped out of the woods in the area of Route 4 &
408 (Anne Arundel/PG County line), advising of a vehicle well-off
the roadway. Ambulance 69 found a single-vehicle, that had rolled,
with one patient trapped, and one patient ejected. Crew members
immediately contacted Communications of the same, and began tending
to both patients. Ambulance 69 transported both patients to PG Shock
Trauma again. Shortly after returning to the county, Ambulance 69
handled a separate medical and finally returned back to service
around 0830 hours (6.5 hours later).
